Curriculum Overview

Curriculum Intent

  • Our Curriculum at Anton Infants is underpinned by our School Values. These values form the consensus amongst our team for the key skills children need to become happy, resilient learners who strive to achieve and enable them to develop a love of learning to last a lifetime. The early years are a crucial stage in learning and we are very aware that childhood is such a short season in life. It should be filled with learning experiences that evoke joy, awe and wonder with the world, whilst equipping children with essential life skills to take forward to the next stage of their education.

Our School Values are:

Resilience - We foster and encourage the skill of adapting and changing when things don’t go to plan. Never give up!

Love - We teach children to be kind and caring to people and the environment, develop passion for their interests and love their learning.

Creativity - We explore the ability to see things in different ways and express ourselves. Break boundaries!

Independence - We support our children to use the skills taught to tackle tasks on their own and make decisions.

Curiosity - We encourage our children to have a strong desire to learn and know things. Never stop asking questions!

Together these values align to ensure our children become well-rounded individuals who have the ability to question, express their thoughts and become well-prepared for the rest of their lives.

To achieve these aims we have:

Identified the aspirations we have for our children, the essential skills and knowledge they need to learn and memorable moments we would like them to experience whilst in our care. Ensured our curriculum is progressive so that key skills and knowledge gained in the EYFS can be built upon in years one and two.

Ensured staff are aware of the crucial knowledge within each subject and how we can ensure children learn this sufficiently.

Identified key vocabulary in each subject in order for them to attribute meaning to new information and concepts and support with making connections to prior knowledge.

Our curriculum is both knowledge and skills-based. Leaders and teachers have worked together to sequence our curriculum so that once children acquire the initial knowledge they have opportunities to revisit and build upon this to ensure key concepts are embedded into their long-term memory and skills are developed over time.
